Nexus playr4/19/2023 ![]() Using the remote control to navigate around the Android TV UI is very fast and responsive. Since the remote control connects to your Nexus Player via Bluetooth, you do not need to point the remote control directly at the Nexus Player for it to work, unlike TV remote control. The included remote control supports voice search which is pretty awesome and convenient way to search for stuff. In fact, because it uses 802.11ac 2×2 (MIMO), it is able to support 5GHz wi-fi networks unlike Chromecast which only supports 2.4GHz wi-fi networks. It supports Google Cast which means you can cast media to it like how Chromecast works. It connects to your television via HDMI like most media players in the market now. Similar to Google Chromecast, it is wi-fi only (I know Google came out with an Ethernet adapter, but that is another story). ![]() Nexus Player – Setup Nexus Player – Welcome Nexus Player – Sign in to Google Nexus Player – Sign in to Google Nexus Player – Rename Player Nexus Player – Home Screen Nexus Player – Settings In fact, I prefer Android TV than Apple TV because the UI is much more user friendly. Since it does not ship to Singapore directly, I shipped it to my favourite freight forwarder, HopShopGo, and got them to ship to me once they received the parcel. I got it on Amazon for US$67.68 (S$93) back on 29th June 2015. I'm not sure if it was worth the 50 bucks I dropped on it, but I have a small, portable home theater system that includes a bluetooth speaker and a projector that both can run on batteries and this thing should be able to run off of them so I can go outside or travel with them and still have media with me.Amazon was having a 30% discount on the Nexus Player two weeks ago. I have a 2-year old and that is a big concern. I have two and they were excited about that, but I am wary to let them play without my presence, because I don't want the controller to disappear. I didn't really play with that too much, but little kids like it. There are apps from other countries (pretty cool because I speak German and have family there and like to keep my language skills refreshed - TV helps). We watched the Super Bowl 50 on CBS thanks to this. There are a lot of apps to install for this thing. My wife has a Droid phone right now though, and she was able to install a remote for the thing, so we are not in that boat thankfully. If you lose your controller this thing is a brick. There is no app to control it with Apple as far as I know (I looked), so if that is all you have for a phone or whatever, then you can't lose your controller. ![]() Once you get everything setup it does work well I suppose. You just have to go check over and over until you're done updating. And it doesn't just let you know it's out of date. ![]() You will need to go into your settings and update about 5 times before it will finally be up-to-date. You'll spend about an hour trying to update this thing, because it won't do it automatically. You can't turn this thing off without just unplugging it completely. You can't put Amazon video on this thing. Well, it's only a little cool.įirst, let me say you won't be able to install any program you want. It's really sleek and kind of small and it just seemed like it was going to be ultra cool. I had high hopes for this thing based on the stats.
